Mission

Within the Emerging Markets Debt team and right below the head of the team, duties are split so that we fulfil the below complementary tasks:

  • Develop convictions based on a strategic vision of financial markets

  • Translate the convictions into trade ideas and implement the trade ideas within the constraints of the portfolios

Responsibilities

Performance and fund management

  • Co-manager of Candriam Bonds Emerging Market Total Return and Candriam SRI Bond Emerging Markets

  • Participate actively in defining and executing alpha generating LC rates and FX strategies across EMD funds

  • Responsible for portfolio simulations, risk budgeting and risk optimizations, position sizing in CBEDLC

  • Construct, monitor and manage assigned EMD funds in line with the investment strategy agreed by the EMD team

  • Monitor the investment constraints (Legal & Internal) across EMD strategies

  • Execution of agreed investment strategy (trade directly or via trading desk), follow up on outcome of execution (support the full trade cycle, manage Q&A from risk management, trading desk and compliance)

  • Monitor the absolute and relative performance of CBEDLC (vs Peer group & Benchmark)

  • Prepare investment management reports (monthly and quarterly for CBEDLC)

    Investment strategy

  • EMD specialist for global rates and EMFX across EMD funds. Primary analyst for Asia and secondary analyst for Latam/CEEMEA

  • Update the country analysis of the assigned primary and secondary LC universe on the basis of analysis of macroeconomic data and (geo)-political/structural reform trends

  • Update regularly the EMFX and LC Rates scorecards Prepare and participate actively in the EMD committee with inputs from the macro database, at a country and EM aggregate level

  • Communicate clearly investment proposals.

  • Participate actively in EMFX and LC Rates team discussions with other primary LC analysts.

  • Update Strategy Tracker for changes in investment strategy and monitor trade performance

    Investment process development

  • Owner of all LC investment process development and refinement projects

  • Update and development of LC investment management tools and market/position trackers

  • Communication of LC investment strategy to internal and external clients

    Commercial support and business development

  • Ad-hoc commercial support - RFPs, client follow ups, marketing research

  • Business and product development - continue commercializing CBEDLC with a focus on improving the marketing collateral (SPP, SDD)

Required Skills & Competencies

With ideally 3 to 5 years of experience, the candidate will have a strong macro-economic and mathematic background. He/she will be pro-active, will bring new ideas to the team and will show dynamism and enthusiasm.

Education:

  • Engineering school or equivalent University degree.

  • Strong financials academics and programming knowledge (VBA/Access/Python/Matlab).
