Global Markets Risk Manager - London, United Kingdom,
British Pound . GBP -
Corporate Title: Assistant Vice President
Line of Business: Global Markets Risk
Here in London we are looking for a Global Markets Risk Manager to join a high-performing market risk management team, to focus initially on the Global Asset Resolution desk managing a diverse and complex portfolio of products from EMEA and US spanning multiple asset classes, e.g. Rates, Credit and Mortgages.
Significant training on the skills of risk management will be provided, including future opportunities to learn about different products and markets.
As a Global Markets Risk Manager your main responsibilities will involve:
The work of a market risk manager is a blend of technical understanding of financial products, real-time monitoring of financial markets and quantitative data analysis and modelling. It also requires a variety of communication skills used to report on risk positions in order to influence risk takers and inform key stakeholders.
The role requires understanding the business activity on a trading desk and undertaking risk reporting across a range of audiences ranging from individual traders, through to senior management and regulators.
Risk analysis is one half of the job, performed using the firm's systems as well as via ad-hoc methods. Communication is the other half of the job, describing the analysis conducted in a variety of ways, some standard, some ad-hoc.
As a Global Markets Risk Manager your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
There is no unique background that defines a successful risk manager, however a quantative mind and a natural curiosity is a must, the desire to ask questions, to challenge what you know and what you're told, searching for gaps while trying to see the big picture.
One or more of the following qualities helps:
- Solid academic background, which may include a postgraduate qualification
- Good people skills demonstrated across various communication styles (written / one-to-one / large groups)
- Knowledge of financial markets, e.g. via previous work experience
- An understanding of financial derivatives and methods for their financial modelling
- An ability to multi-task and prioritise across several competing demands, meeting tight deadlines
For this role, prior exposure to the trading of Credit products would be valuable. The risk management team is located on the trading floor and has direct contact with traders all day. The successful candidate will need to build excellent business relationships whilst maintaining personal independence. The role will involve data analysis, report design and dialogue with the systems development group; the candidate therefore must have an appreciation of IT systems and their development process. It is not necessary to be a programmer, however Microsoft Excel is essential and VBA highly desirable.
If you meet some of the criteria above, and you're motivated to be part of a high-performing team that targets the highest quality standards in a friendly environment, please apply with your resume and a brief explanation of your strengths.
