Senior Credit Underwriter

Our client is an established, reputable Challenger Bank who provide specialist business banking solutions to the UK SME market. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Credit Underwriter within their Specialist Asset Finance division. They require someone with a 'story-book' lending background/mentality, who can understand and take into consideration the affordability and mindset of a business when making their credit decisions. The position will have end-to-end underwriting responsibility with a significant underwriting mandate. The successful candidate will have a strong background in Credit Underwriting in Commercial and Corporate Asset Finance markets or Wholesale, Middle Ticket, Mid-Term lending.

The Senior Credit Underwriter will be predominantly office based from their London offices, however, there will be a regular requirement to travel to visit prospects and clients.

Responsibilities of the Senior Credit Underwriter:

You will be responsible for the end-to-end underwriting process in accordance to pre-agreed SLAs and also representing at Credit Comittees when applicable to influence the lending decision. The role will also involve portfolio monitoring and assisting with high value lends and high risk customers. Your main area of focus will be in relation to the larger, specialised, structured and complex deals and therefore occasionally client visits will be expected.

Requirements of the Senior Credit Underwriter:

  • Previous experience within Asset Finance/Mid-term Lending
  • Experience in a relevant role within Credit/Risk Management
  • Ability to take into consideration the affordability and mindset of business/people behind the business when reaching a lending decision
  • Willingness, aptitude and gravitas to be a key member of a growing business
  • Good financial analysis skills when lending to SMEs and Corporates
